Art & Artisans |
| In the tradition of Frank Miller and his curio shop, the Mission Inn Museum is proud to offer one of a kind products from local artists. Our featured artist is Ed Traynor. He impresses his potter's stamp in the wet clay to provide an indelible identification. His particular mark contains his initials within the arch shape of the kiln. Clay is dug from the earth and compounded with other materials to form a vitreous stoneware body fired to 2400 degrees. Gradual heating is recommended for pots intended for oven use. They are microwave and dishwasher-safe. These lead-free glazes are derived from feldspar, a mineral which is combined with other earthen materials to form a durable, non-toxic surface. Ed Traynor studied at Cranbook Academy of Art in Michigan and taught ceramics at UCLA. His work in clay reflects the traditional interests of the potter and reveals a blending of European and Asian influences. |
